Ujjain : Celebrations erupted across the temple town as India trounced arch rival Pakistan in the first match of the cricket World Cup in Adelaide on Sunday.

Cricket fans, including young boys and girls, distributed sweets and burst firecrackers, while many came out on roads and danced to the beating of drums as soon as Mohit Sharma took the last wicket of Sohail Khan to seal Pakistan’s fate in Adelaide.

Not just the youth, even the families came out in cars and assembled in market areas around their colonies. The ecstatic fans filled the streets and burst firecrackers. The celebrations continued till night. It was like a dream come true for a majority of residents, who had been praying for Pakistan’s defeat in the match.

People were seen carrying the Tricolour with them at many places in the city.   The streets of the Tower Chowk area became the most happening point. For the cricket buffs, high on the World Cup spirit, Sunday’s triumph was nothing less than a battle won.
