With installation of idols in different houses and pandals in the city, the ten- day Ganesh festival will begin on Thursday.

Puja that will start from Ganesh Chaturthi will continue till Ananta Chat


The Hindus throughout the world celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi, the great Ganesha festival, which is also known as alt39 Vinayak Chaturthialt39 or alt39 Vinayaka Chavithialt39. It is celebrated during the month of Bhadra ( mid- August to mid- September). Coconut, jaggery, 21 alt39 modakas ( sweetmeat)alt39, 21 alt39 durva ( trefoil)alt39 and red flowers are offered to the deity. The idol is anointed with red sandal paste ( rakta chandan).

Hymns from the Rig Veda and Ganapati Atharva Shirsha Upanishad and Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are chanted. For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesha is worshipped. On the 11th day, the idols are taken through the streets in a procession for immersion.

In Bhopal, attractive pandals have been prepared for installation of the idols Lord Ganesha.

Even in colonies, pandals have been erected for the Lord. Stalls have also been installed for selling idols of Lord Ganesha of various sizes.
