Mumbai: The plan for the Municipal Commissioners new office, set to be shifted to the second floor of the civic headquarters, has been approved by engineers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC). The Commissioners office is currently l

ocated on the first floor of the old BMC building.

The shifting is part of a larger renovation plan, which includes reshuffling of many administrative offices within the civic body.

According to the new plan, all the administrative offices in the old building will be shifted elsewhere and the entire second floor reserved for the Commissioners office.

Additionally, all the committee chairmens offices and the Deputy Mayors office will now be shifted to the first floor of the old building.

” The changes had been planned in 2009. The budget for the changes in the new building is Rs 65 crore and for the old building it is Rs 36 crore. The changes are likely to be implemented within a year,” said BMCs City Engineer Jeevan Patgaonkar.

The Audit Department, currently on the second floor, will be shifted to fourth floor of the new building ( in place of the BMC canteen) to make way for the Commissioners office. The press room, currently located next to the Heritage Department, will also be used for the Commissioners office and is likely to be shifted to the second floor.

” The offices of the political parties and citizens facilitation centre will also be shifted to the old building from the new building in place of the Tax Department on the first floor. The Pension Department will be shifted from the old building to the fourth floor of the new building,” Patgaonkar said.
