The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday blasted Home Minister P Chidambaram for ‘an open, crisp and clear suggestion’to three Gujarat police officers accused of indiscipline to seek the Congress- led cent
ral governments help.
‘It sounded like an invitation to the errant officials, rather than an answer to a journalist, by a Union Home Minister who should be interested in building a disciplined police force in the country,’party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reports here on Chidambarams remarks at an interaction with media here on Friday.
She also accused the Congress of bringing ‘rancor and disaffection’among service officers, with an eye on the Assembly elections in 2012, by attributing baseless motives to what is entirely a disciplinary matter which are being inquired into by following due and established process of law.
Sitharaman said it was shocking that the home minister came out in support of such delinquent officers who are charged on various grounds of omissions and commissions in office.
She said there seems to be a pattern in the Union Home Ministers meddling with Gujarats affairs.
He had earlier transferred two officers out of Gujarat, without even informing, forget seeking the approval, of the state government.
‘The other instance: in the Ishrat Jehan case the Union Governments affidavit itself admitted that she was a Lashkar operative and the LeT website had also proudly claimed her as a Jehadi operative.
The Home Minister subsequently deflected from this line.
‘The Andhra Pradesh connection in the Sohrabuddin case was not being investigated into, until very recently.
The officer who stonewalled this enquiry to protect erring officers in Andhra Pradesh, Shri Balwinder Singh was brought to head the CBI,’she added.
