Ujjain : Avadhesh Puri previously Avadhesh Das will be initiated into Sanyas this upcoming Simhastha mela. The possible dates have been revealed as third royal bath to be held on May 21.
The indicators were spilled by Acharya of Mahanirvani Akhara Vishokananda Bharti who arrived in city on Friday. Avadhesh Puri is now direct disciple of Mahant Prakash Puri. Dr Avadhesh Puri is the same seer who had refused to wear convocation gown in the ceremony organised by Vikram University in the ceremony of 2015. He had taken his PhD dressed as Sanyasi. The seer who is highly educated holds a doctorate on Human Values of Ramcharit Manas. Puri will be initiated Khooni Naga in the last Shahi Snana of Simhastha mela by Acharya Vishokananda Bharti.
Previously, Dr Avadhesh Puri was Avadhesh Das and was saint of Digambar (Vaishnav) akhara. He was initiated as Vaishnav Sadhu in 1997 by Maha Mandleshwar Keshav Das of Digambar Akhara. It is a rare occasion that a Vaishnav saint converts himself to Naga Shaiva Sanyasi. But the Puri terms it as order of lord Mahakal, which he has to follow. Talking to Free Press said, “My humanitarian works were still continue when I was Digambar, but suddenly Mahant Prakash Puri contacted him in 2015 and asked him to provide his services in the Maha Nirvani, to which he agreed after taking permission of his previous Guru.
Now after his initiation as Naga and performing the Vijaya Havan ritual, Puri will be a complete Sanyasi and will qualify for performing Bhasma Aarti in the Mahakal temple. The rare ritual of Bhasma Aarti can only be done by a Sanyasi, which is why Maha Nirvani akhara has its settlements in the temple. Now Mahant Prakash Puri has chosen Avadhesh Puri as his successor, who will now replace him in rare ritual, after becoming a Sanyasi.
