After Goan theatre legend Prince Jacobs hit July presentation, another theatre troupe under the tutelage of legendary dramatist Menino de Bandar is coming in the second week of August to enthrall Mumbai conno

isseurs with their Konkani Tiatr or play.

Menino Fernandes, popularly known as Menino de Bandar, is one of the most talented directors of the Konkani stage who created history by staging 215 shows of his Non- Stop Drama alt39 Succorinaalt39 in 1985 – a first time record of staging such number of shows of one play. He is rightly called alt39 King of Double Centuriesalt39 by his fans.

Menino has a number of awards to his credit including the Gulab Award and the Cine Times Award. Menino is also a big name in Goa Tiatr Academy circles with a fan club to his name, no mean achievement for a regional theatre artiste.

This time around, his Goan drama is titled Kristanv ( Christian).

The story is based on a happy Hindu couple who have no children after marriage. The wife suggests that many couples have been blessed by a certain church in Vailankani and they should visit this shrine. The husband opposes the decision.

Somehow the wife convinces her husband and they go to Vailankani ( Chennai) on a pilgrimage. Soon they are blessed with a son.

A happy family, the son is brought up and educated in a convent school and college.

Everything goes well until Prakash ( the son), with all his Christian leanings, gets visions of Mary in his dreams and he decides to become a priest. He informs his mother, but the father opposes his decision. The mother tries to convince her husband but to no avail. The boy is disturbed and confronted from all angles… and this is what the play is all about.

Event manager Tony Martins is confident that Menino Bandars tiatr alt39 Kristanvalt39 will also go housefull like Prince Jacobs as it boasts of an excellent star cast especially comedians like Shaikh Amir, Jane, Ben and Alexin. Even singers like Markus Vaz, Baba Ciello and T Britton are brilliant and are capable of bringing the house down.
