Ujjain : There should have an alternative to soybean crop in the division. As they have been yielding soybean in the division for the last 35 years with priority, farmers do not get sufficient production and profit from this crop. Moreover the soil has lost the substances which helped in bumper production of soybean. Hence, the change is required and other crops should be produced with prominence.
This was said by Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) and Additional Chief Secretary PC Meena during a meeting of Kharif-2015 review and deciding upon the Rabi 2015-16 programme, on Thursday. APC Meena said that they have to search for the alternative of soybean crop and farmers should be made aware about this. Principal Secretary Rajesh Rajora told that pulses, ground nut and sesame are the good alternatives of soybean. They give good production and good market price. Corn crops are also profitable. There is a lot of possibility of arhar production in Khachrod area of the district. The production of soybean crop is 3.64 quintal per hectare in Ujjain and 4.80 quintal per hectare in Agar-Malwa. Crop reaping experiment should be near to the reality.
APC told that Ujjain division has immense possibility for horticulture, agriculture, cooperative, dairy, fishery, etc. The soil has all the quality which can make the division exemplary on the national level. Farmers should be told that they should not sow wheat crop in lack of sufficient irrigation resources. They should go for other crops if they have water resource for irrigating the crops once or twice. Yellow mojace virus and colonel brand were also discussed. Regarding the preparation of Rabi crop, it was told that wheat production was 37 quintal per hectare in the district last year while gram was 10 quintal per hectare and mustard 17 quintal per hectare. Mustard should be produced in the district at large scale.
PS Agriculture told that the government would distribute neem coated urea to farmers for the good health of crops. One of the benefits of using such sort of urea is that misuse of urea in milk can be stopped. Black marketing of urea should be stopped strictly. He also gave new concept of zero tillage for the smart farming.
