Ujjain : For the first time in the history of Ujjain district, Administration has come out with an initiative to woo electorates by circulating them invitation letters along with voters’ slip. Worried over low turn out of electorates in 2009 Lok Sabha ( LS) polls, hot climate and Panch Kroshi pilgrimage on the same day of election, Collector and District Electoral Officer BM Sharma has invited all the electorates to participate in the festival of democracy.
Taking initiative under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation ( SVEEP) plan, district administration is circulating invitation letters to every electorate of the district urging them to exercise their franchise in LS polls. The invitation letter comprises an appeal by Collector BM Sharma urging electorates to cast their vote on the day of polls to make a fir democratic nation. Administration has taken the initiative to woo voters as they often hesitate to cast their vote amidst hot climate.
Sources informed that only 56 percent electorates turned out to cast their votes during 2009 Lok Sabha polls while the polling percent in the district during 2008 Assembly Elections was about 70 percent. There are few reasons behind low turn out.One of the reasons is that electorates do not come out of their abodes amidst scorching hot atmosphere.
This year too, the temperature has hiked to 40 degree Celsius and rural people will leave for Panchkroshi pilgrimage on the day of polling that is on April 24. To attract electorates in the district, administration has implemented that innovation to fetch a good percent of polling.
