Ujjain : Absence of a contractor for the cycle-cum-two-wheeler stand at Ujjian Municipal Corporation’s parking lot in the city is taking a heavy toll on motorcycles, with several vehicles parked in the premises being missing in the past months. At least 70 two-wheelers were stolen in the last six months, giving a tough time for the staff and citizens in the town who largely commute to the area for work daily. According to sources, the parking lot at the UMC was built after spending Rs20 lakh this year, allegedly due to negligence and poor administration the vehicles are getting stolen continuously from the area. Also UMC staff park their vehicles in the open space on the UMC premises, he said. With no security for the motorcycles, it has provided ample opportunity for the thieves to make away with the two-wheelers. A worker said, “Thousands of people from the rural pockets around the district drive down to the town for various kinds of official works. Many among them use two-wheelers for transportation that are parked at the two-wheeler stand inside the parking lot.
