A joint operation by the Bandra Police and the local crime branch unit led to the arrest of four persons on Friday, who on Monday had extorted Rs 5 lakh by kidnapping a 12- year- old boy from Bandra ( West). Th

e police said that the kidnappers drew the idea from an old Hollywood movie.

Early morning on Monday, the victim Eric Fernandes was kidnapped from near his school and was released on Wednesday by the kidnappers, soon after Erics father Pravin paid the demanded amount of Rs 5 lakh.

” The accused demanded Rs 50 lakh, but later brought it down to Rs 5 lakh. The kidnappers asked Pravin to the money at Karjat railway station but later changed it to some other location. This was deliberately done a few times to get rid of the police trail,” explained Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IX, Pratap Dighavkar. The four arrested persons are Niranjan Mishra, Vedprakash Yadav, Abdul Satar and A Lokpande.

Officers said that Mishra was the mastermind of the kidnapping.
