The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) on Friday threw open the 384- meter long northern arm of the Barfiwala flyover for the motorists amidst clapping by the residents and onlookers.

The southern arm of the flyover has already been operational since June 2011. With both southern and northern arms operational, the flyover will now serve more than seventy thousand vehicles ease in and out of the east and west sides of Andheri daily and also save around 20 minutes of travel time.

The Rs 42- crore Barfiwala flyover is the second eastwest connectivity provided to the city by the MMRDA after it opened the rupees 50- crore and 1040- meter long Dahisar Rail Over Bridge last year. The flyover was inaugurated within minutes for the motorists unlike the earlier period when the grand functions led to delay in actual opening. However this time due to the election code of conduct in practice no leaders turned up for taking credits like previous occasions.
