Ujjain : With Deepawali just round the corner, black- marketing as well as seizure of adulterated food items seems to have become the order of the day. Administration seized 3.5 quintals of spurious Mawa being transported to the city from Unhel- Nagda on Tuesday evening.

A joint team of the Food Department and the administration seized a chunk of adulterated Mawa at Gadi Adda on Tuesday evening that was being brought from Unhel- Nagda to deliver in city eateries and Harda. According to administrative officials, they had got information that a large amount of adulterated Mawa was being supplied from Unhel- Nagda to Ujjain for the past few days. Synthetic mawa was being transported to the city by Begam, Gurjar and Golden bus services. Administration got shocked as the quantity of mawa was only 3.5 quintals as it was expected to 10 quintals.

Administration carried out checking at city eateries, restaurants, bakeries, grocery shops ahead of Deepawali festival on Tuesday. Sampling of adulterated mawa will be done on Wednesday. Earlier, administration team performed sampling at Satyug restaurant at Gudri square, Bakers’ Lounge, Shri Ganga restaurant and other eateries.

Officials also inspected the measurement equipments being used by shopkeepers. The checking was conducted under the leadership of City Magistrate Rohan Saxena while food officers Shailesh Gupta, Narendra Sisodia, Pavan Rathore, Jagdish Parmar and Manish were present.
