25,000 ‘ fake’ voters in electoral list: Congress

Ujjain : The Congress party on Monday alleged that the local election authorities have been instrumental in extending political benefit to the BJP as more than 25,000 ‘ fake’ persons have been enrolled in the electoral rolls of eight assembly constituency of the Ujjain parliamentary constituency.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Club, Congress leader Vivek adav and Lok Sabha outh Congress ( C) president Hemant Singh Chauhan said that through a special drive, the C workers have found names of such persons in the electoral rolls who have died and women who got married and shifted to new places. There are also persons whose names have been figured twice and even thrice. Besides, there are several fictitious names and fake addresses in the rolls, they said.

The duo informed that the C launched a drive from February 1 to check the electoral rolls. This exercise is still continuing in Alote, Barnagar and Nagda- Khachrod Assembly segments while it has been completed in other five segments. Names of at least 4800, 3700, 3600, 4750 and 4000 fake voters have been enrolled in Ujjain North, Ujjain South, Ghattiya, Tarana and Mahidpur segments, respectively. According to them, they have already submitted lists of fake voters to the officers concerned for deletion and will approach the Election Commission of India if necessary amendments are not made.
