The battle began few years ago…the battle between Apple and Samsung fans! The Samsung Note was subjected to a lot of criticism for its sheer size – ‘You look like you are talking into a piece of toast’. The trouble amplified after Samsung released an ad showing how the Samsung Galaxy S III was better than iPhone 5. The social media saw an outpouring of rage from both fans. Interestingly, these attacks have really gotten the best out of these brands and the world has seen innovation at its best. A week ahead of Diwali, we saw an explosive launch of Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the much awaited phablets. Here is our unbiased attempt to compare these 2 gadgets.

Yes, you heard it. An unbiased comparison as we don’t intend to hurt the sentiments of the millions of faithful fans. If you do see another round of social media explosion from the fanatic fans, we want to clarify that we didn’t start the fire!

While both the Apple and Samsung phablets are almost the same in size and weight, iPhone 6 Plus is slightly thinner by about 1.4 mm. However Galaxy Note 4 sports a distinctly larger display screen of 5.7 inch with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution as compared to 5.5 inch display for iPhone 6 Plus with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. While a 0.2 inch bigger screen should not make a significant difference, more pixels per inch will certainly bring in a better quality graphics for those who have an eye for details.

As far as the exterior of the phone is concerned, the iPhone 6 Plus is made of aluminum and comes with 3 colour options (silver, gold and space grey), while the Note 4 has metal frame and textured soft touch back with 4 colour options (black, white, gold and pink). And then you have a range of skin and case covers available in the market to beautify it further…(Really, why do we bother about what colour it comes in?)

Ever heard of Snapdragon 805 and A8? If not, it really doesn’t matter. These are the latest chipsets available for Android OS and Apple iOS and are a part of Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus respectively. So you can’t get better than this.

One thing you should consider is the RAM that determines the speed of the phone. Note 4 definitely has an edge with its 3 GB RAM over iPhone 6 Plus with its 1 GB RAM. In terms of storage, Note 4 comes with 32 GB and expandable up to 128GB, while the iPhone has 3 variants – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. If you are wondering why they don’t have a 32 GB…well, that’s Apple for you. In any case, you never questioned the odd 1136 x 640 pixel resolution in iPhone 5!

If you believe that a higher mega pixel camera gives a better output then Note 4 is far superior with its 16 MP rear camera and 3.7 MP front camera. But if you are convinced that you don’t need to print life size posters, you should be okay with the 8 MP rear camera and 1.2 MP front camera that iPhone 6 Plus has to offer.

For those who remember the Ellen DeGeneres greatest selfie ever, clicked during the Oscars, it was done using Galaxy Note 3 with the wide angle selfie mode. The wide angle selfie mode for the Note 4 is enhanced to 120 degree.

Both the phablets feature HD recording, however when it comes to slow motion video, iPhone 6 can capture video at 240 frames per second (fps) when shooting at a resolution of 720 as against 120 fps with the Note 4. Your phone now has a capability to shoot videos like Neo dogging the bullets in movie, Matrix!

These super gadgets definitely enhance your web browsing, photography, video shoot and social media engagements… but do they have enough juice?

iPhone 6 Plus has a non-removable Li-Po 2915 mAh battery. The company claims that it can support up to 24 hours of talk time, 16 days on standby and 12 hours of browsing.

Note 4 features a removable Li-Ion 3220 mAh battery which claims up to 20-hours of talk time and 26 days on standby. Interestingly, Samsung has introduced a fast charging technology that allows the device to charge 50% in 30 minutes.

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus is available in the range of 62,500 to 80,500 INR depending on the variant you buy, while the Samsung Note 4 is available for 58,300 INR. Given the war between the offline and online retailers, you can expect incredible discounts in the days to come.
