In his resignation he takes an opportunity to express his experience as the president of Indian National Congress. He says, "It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation. I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love."

He takes the responsibility of the major defeat of Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This is the reason why the accountability of the future growth of the party is critical and therefore for the better future of the party he wishes to quit, he explains.

The letter further talks about his emotional attachment with the Congress Party. For him the party starts from the family itself.

Even after modestly stepping off the glamorous chair, twitter people aren't any good to him. Many fo the people have reacted harshly to this resignation.
