To ensure no authorized passengers travel in trains, Mumbai Division of Central Railway has regularly conducted intensive and regular ticket checking drives in suburban and Mail Express trains to ensure that only bonafide passengers travel in trains in accordance with state government guidelines and following Covid protocol.
During the intensive, special and regular checks, conducted by ticket checking staff from April 2021 to May 31, 2021, a total of 1.50 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travellers were detected in non-suburban trains (long distance trains) and suburban trains realizing an amount of Rs.9.50 crore as penalty.
Out of the 1.50 lakh cases, 54,000 cases of ticketless/irregular travellers were detected and an amount of Rs 3.33 crore were realized as penalty. These included 32,000 cases in the suburban section with a fine of Rs 1.65 crores and 22,000 cases in the non-suburban section with a fine of Rs 1.68 crore.
In addition, special teams of ticket checking personnel detected 1269 cases of not wearing mask and realized an amount of Rs.2, 40, 645 as fine during the period April 17 to June 2, 2021.
From April 28 to May 31, 2021, 2018 cases of unauthorized travel violating the Disaster Management Act, were also detected and an amount of Rs.10,09,000 were realized as fine.
