Mumbai : The Mumbai Police Headquarters has ordered the suspension of two police officials attached with the Antop Hill and Wadala TT police stations for handling the rape case of a five-year-old girl in an ‘irresponsible and insensitive’ manner while squabbling over jurisdictional duties.
Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sanjeev Nimbalkar of the Antop Hill police was suspended for failing to take the victim to the hospital while Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Anand Jhavre of the Wadala TT police station has been suspended for failing to promptly register a First Information Report (FIR).
The girl, who is a resident of Vijay Nagar, was allegedly kidnapped after being lured by an unidentified accused with chocolates and money. The unidentified man then took her to an open dumping ground in Sangam Nagar where he allegedly raped her.
The girl was found crying and bleeding from her private parts near the dumping gr-ound by a couple in Sangam Nagar who informed the police after which the Antop Hill police reached the spot.
While the accused got away with committing the heinous crime, the said police officials from the two police stations were in a squabble over their jurisdictional duties since the girl was kidnapped from the jurisdiction of the Wadala TT police but was raped in the jurisdiction of the Antop Hill police.
“The girl was not taken to the hospital for over four hours after she was found in Sangam Nagar. It is the duty of the police to immediately take the victim to a hospital and promptly register an FIR, especially in such sensitive cases. The suspension of the two police officials has been ordered on grounds of irresponsible and insensitive behaviour,” confirmed a police source privy to the case.
