You make desktop 3D bio-printer that builds 3D living tissues out of human cells. For those who do not understand the complexities, can you tell me how this helps in the day to day living and the society per se?

Our products are primarily being used by researchers, they help them conduct cutting edge research that is bringing replacement organs built out of a patient’s own cells closer to the clinic than ever before, it’s helping new drugs come to market that are designed for individuals and can cure disease, it’s helping us travel to and colonize other planets, and it’s helping us understand how to design living systems and build with life.

What have been milestones in your life? What could be your next milestone?

I was born 23 years ago, that’s definitely a big milestone. Other than that I try not to think about life as a set of checkpoints or hoops to jump through on my way out, rather I’ve been growing since I was born and trying to figure out what I can do that’s going to have the largest positive impact on humanity. I really think it involves biology and using it as an engineering discipline, and BioBots is the best vehicle for me to do that right now.

Who has influenced you most in your life? Why?

My parents have been a huge positive influence in my life, they taught me that anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself and work impossibly hard to achieve it.

Danny is the Founder of Biobots, which makes desktop 3D bioprinter that builds 3D living tissues out of human cells. It is a beautifully designed, precision manufactured robot that prints cells and bioinks, bringing a new dimension to biology.

Are you ambitious? If yes, have you chalked out your life? Does planning help?

You have to have some ambition to start a company, it’s certainly not the easiest route to take in life. I like to live in the moment as much as I can, but I have been doing a lot of planning lately, mostly around BioBots, how the company evolves and how I evolve with it. Planning is great at keeping me focused on the things that matter most.

How have you tackled setbacks in life? What keeps you going? Have you ever wanted to give it all up and do something else?

I just keep going. When something fails I try again, and again, and again, giving up definitely does not come naturally to me.

India has a multitude of talent. And yet, we are unable to make rapid strides like China. How do we harness talent in India and channelize it?

I believe in the power of individuals to do incredible things, I’ve never been to India so I really cannot comment specifically.
