Mumbai: Daisy Queens put up a spirited performance as they defeated Rose Tossers 4-3 in an intensely fought final to be crowned champions of the third Shuttle Craze Maharashtra state Women’s Masters’ Badminton League played at Matunga Gymkhana under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA) on Monday. Daisy Queens started with a bang as they won their first three clashes of the tie.
The pairs of captain Sandhya Melasheemi and Balvinder Sapra, Vandana Kabra and Nilakshi Sinha, Reena Manohar and Vijayalakshmi Subramanian won their respective doubles matches to take a strong 3-0 lead. The Rose Tossers, after a poor start, staged a strong comeback as they won their next three matches to level the scores at 3-3.
With one match to go in the final tie, Vijayalakshmi Subramanian and Nilakshi Sinha of Daisy Queens kept their focus and won points at important stages to win 21-13 against Linta Mathew and Unaiza Punjabi to emerge victorious. The prize distribution was done at the hands of former international badminton player and deputy president of MBA, Pradeep Gandhe in presence of office-bearers of Matunga Gym-khana, Mangirish Palekar (Founder-Director, Shuttle Craze) and Arlene Ghosh (Joint Director, Shuttle Craze).
