Mumbai : WIFA XI scored once in each half to notch up a 2-0 win against Mizoram XI in an exhibition match organised by WIFA and FEI Cargo and played under floodlights at the refurbished Cooperage ground on Thursday evening.

The National champions Mizoram started well and created the better chances initially, but were unlucky of not taking the lead as a couple of their goal-scoring attempts struck the framework. WIFA goalkeeper Harshad Meher also made some timely saves to deny the visitors from finding the net.

WIFA struck the first goal when Linekar Machado pounced on a rebound and slotted home past Mizoram goalkeeper Lalawmpuia in the 35th minute. Later, Mizoram applied a lot of pressure on the WIFA citadel in search of the equaliser but their efforts went in vain.

Having soaked in a lot of pressure, WIFA doubled the lead through Mohammed Shafique from a goal-mouth scramble in the 72nd minute.

This event will be an annual affair where the national champion will be invited to play a match.

Results: WIFA XI 2 (Linekar Machado 35th min, Mohammed Shafique 72nd min) beat Mizoram XI 0.
