Harmanpreet Kaur became wonder woman of Indian women’s team, after bashing every Australian bowler in ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final yesterday at Derby, England. Kaur scored a whopping 171 runs in just 115 balls, which included 20 fours and 7 sixes, and remained not out. The innings were not easy, as the six time champions Australian team, gave India a run for their money. Even Deepti Sharma had a few though moments and even shed few tears.
During her chase for runs, in the 35th over, while going for a second run, Kaur was involved in a huge mix-up with her partner Deepti Sharma, who got exposed at the non-strikers end. But both of them made their respective grounds, but Harmanpreet was furious and reacted strongly. Kaur’s actions left Deepti Sharma into tears.
“I didn’t get a chance to bat in the whole tournament, wanted to utilise that opportunity. Whatever I was thinking, I utilised. The plan was to watch the ball and hitting the ball. It was the heat of the moment (Deepti Sharma incident), I said sorry to her. We’re fine now,” Harmanpreet said in a press conference.
Kaur’s stunning 171 helped the Indian team to reach a score of 281 for 4, after the rain reduced the match to 42-overs. Harmanpreet not only slammed her 3rd ODI hundred but also became 5th highest run-scorer in women’s cricket. She has also become the second highest run scorer for India after Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 188 against South Africa earlier this year.
This was India’s highest ever total against the Southern Stars and proved to be match-winning. And the ‘Women In Blue’ will now meet hosts England in the final at the Lord’s on Sunday.
