Mumbai: The Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation announced the preparedness to host the 4th edition of the Vasai-Virar Mayor’s Marathon 2014, which will be flagged off from multiple locations in the Vasai-Virar region on Sunday, December 21.
Narayan Mankar, Hon’ble Mayor of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC) informed media persons at a Press Conference on Friday, that the first race of the day will be the 42.195 km Full Marathon for elite men, which will be flagged off from the New Viva College, Virar at 6.15 am, followed immediately by the other full marathon categories and the category for amateur women. The Half Marathon for elite men and women will be flagged off from Vasai at 6.45 am, followed immediately by the other half marathon categories.
The 11 KM run for amateurs and the 11 KM run for Under-18 boys from the Vasai-Virar region will be flagged from Vasant Nagari (Vasai E), while the age category races for junior boys and girls will be flagged off from New Viva College.
Also present were Prakash Vanmali, Chief Co-ordinator of the VVMM and General Secretary of the Vasai Taluka Kala Krida Vikas Mandal, Sandesh Jadhav, Standing Committee Charirman, VVMC.
Mankar also mentioned that Western Railway have made arrangements for a special train which would help runners from different places reach the venues in time for the early starts.
“Western Railway will be running a special train, from Churchgate to Virar, stopping at all stations, which will leave Churchgate at 3.00 am.,” stated the Mayor.
