Johannesburg: Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal believes that constant criticism levelled against his side can have a negative impact on the players’ performance. Van Gaal and his side have been facing severe criticism due to their repeated poor performances in the Premier League and their recent defeat at the hands of Midtjylland in the first leg of their Europa League last 32 tie.
However, United have managed to reach the quarter-final of the FA Cup following their 3-0 win over minnows Shrewsbury Town. The Dutchman said that the persistent criticism was having an influence on the players, but added that his side had to overcome it for their own benefits. He also called on United to shift their focus on preparing themselves properly in order to win the upcoming games,Sport24 reported.
Insisting that the club could not remain in form all the time, Van Gaal stressed that the Emirates Stadium club had displayed some good football against Shrewsbury and added that they had also played well in a number of matches this season. United will now play in the second leg against Midtjylland at Old Trafford on Friday.
