Mumbai : Nagpur’s Vaishnavi Bhale will clash against Shruti Mundada of Pune in the women’s singles final whereas, both of them will team up together against Manasi Gadgil and Vaishnavi Iyer in the women’s doubles final in the Safal 1st Maharashtra senior state selection badminton tournament conducted by Sports United at the Chembur Gymkhana. In the women’s singles semis, the fourth seeded Vaishnavi beat Nagpur’s Mrunmayi Saoji 21-19, 21-14 while, Shruti outplayed Nashik’s Vaidehi Choudhari 21-9, 21-9. In the women’s doubles semi-finals, Gadgil and Iyer defeated the pair of Mrunmayi Saoji and Simran Singhi 23-21, 21-17 while, the duo of Bhale and Mundada overpowered Aishwarya Narayanmoorthy and Varda Dixit 21-17, 21-5.
In the men’s singles, Pune’s Ameya Oak made a poor start as he lost the first game but, made a strong comeback to beat Sushrut Karmarkar of Mumbai 14-21, 21-18, 22-20 in a thrilling semi-final clash. In the men’s doubles, the top seeded pair of Abhishek Kulkarni and Nishad Dravid will meet the second seeded duo of Akshay Raut and Prasad Shetty in the final.
