Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran's carnages with the bat helped West Indies register a convincing nine-wicket win over their co-hosts USA in the T20 WC 2024 Super 8 clash in Bridgetown.

With a target of 129, West Indies chased it down with 53 balls to spare. Hope led the Caribbean's batting with a scintillating unbeaten knock of 82 off 39 balls at a strike rate of 210.26, while Pooran contributed with quickfire innings of 27 off 12 balls at a strike rate of 225.00.

Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran formed an unbeaten 63-run partnership for the second wicket to help the West Indies achieve the target in just 10.5 overs.

Chasing a 129-run target, Shai Hope unleashed his firepower from the word go as he raced West Indies to 58/0 in six overs. Hope received a decent support from his batting partner Johnson Charles, who was dismissed for 15 at 67/1.

After Charles' dismissal, Hope continued his assault on USA bowling attack while Nicholas Pooran gave a enough support to the opener. In the ninth over, Shai Hope smashed Milind Kumar for 22 runs, including three sixes on the trot.

When West Indies required 19 off 60 balls to win, Nicholas Pooran smashed two consecutive sixes before Shai Hope finished off the game with a fix off Saurabh Netravalkar.

Mid innings update

A collective effort from the bowlers helped West Indies to bundled out their co-hosts the United States Of America (USA) for 128 in the first innings of the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Match in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 22.

After opting to bowl first by skipper Rovman Powell, Andre Russell provided an early breakthrough for West Indies by dismissing Steven Taylor for 2 at 3/1. Then, opener Andries Gous and Milind Kumar revived the USA's batting with a 48-run partnership for the second wicket until the latter was trapped with LBW by Gudakesh Motie for 20 at 51/2.

Gous's stay at the crease ended after he was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for 29 at 60/3. Thereafter, Raston Chase triggered a collapse in USA's batting as he dismissed Aaron Jones (11), Corey Anderson (7) and Harmeet Singh (0) for 28 runs and reduced the hosts to 88/6.

Milind Kumar and Shadley van Schalkwyk kept the USA's ship sailing and took the team past the 100-run mark until the latter was run out by Andre Russell for 19 at 112/7. Russell ended van Schalkwyk's stay at the crease by dismissing for 18 at 112/7. Nosthush Kenjige (1) and Saurabh Netravalkar (0) dismissed cheaply while Ali Khan remained unbeaten on 14.

Raston Chase registered the figures of 3/19 with an economy rate of 4.80 in four overs, while Andre Russell picked three wickets while conceding 31 runs in 3.3 overs. Alzarri Joseph chipped in by taking two wickets.
