Mumbai: Holders MIG and last runners-up Mumbai Police Gymkhana start as favourites in the 4th Santosh Kumar Ghosh Trophy (U-16) Cricket Tournament set to commence from January 8 at various venues in Mumbai. Organised jointly by Sporting Union Club and Kalyandas Memorial Foundation, the 16 team tournament has other notable outfits like Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation, Karnataka CC, Payyade SC vying for top honours.

Being one of the premier tournaments for the under -16 age group, it has received support from institutions like MET, Bank of India and Union Bank of India this year too.The matches will be played over two days as per the MCA rules. The event is being played under the aegis of the state body to promote the game at this level. The semi finals and finals are scheduled for Jan 21-22 and 28-29 respectively with the latter to be played at the Police Gymkhana.

There will be special awards for the best batsman, bowler and fielder of the tournament as well as man of the match awards. The winners and runners up will also get cash awards. The matches will be conducted at Azad Cross Maidan and Shivaji Park.
