Indian pace bowler Umesh Yadav turns 36 on October 25th (Wednesday) and has been a mainstay for the national team, especially in Test cricket for a long period of time. Ahead of 36th birthday, it's worth looking at his achievements across international cricket and IPL.
The right-arm speedster was born in Nagpur on October 25th, 1987 and had notably applied to join the police force and army before deciding to become a sportsperson. Vidharba's Ranji Trophy skipper Pritam Gandhe played an integral role in helping Yadav representing Air India in a T20 tournament in 2007.
A year later in November 2008, the veteran fast bowler's first-class debut beckoned against Madhya Pradesh in the 2008-09 Ranji Trophy. While the right-arm seamer claimed 4 wickets in the first innings, and did not bowl in the 2nd, he lost. He also earned selection in the Central Zone squad in the Duleep Trophy in his first season of the event.
Umesh Yadav's international career:
The Nagpur-born cricketer made his first international appearance in an ODI against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2010. However, he bowled poorly as India lost the game by 6 wickets. Yadav's Test debut came against the West Indies a year and a half later in Delhi. The seasoned Test bowler went wicketless in the 1st innings, but took a couple in the 2nd as the hosts won by 5 wickets.
He has featured in only 9 T20Is, the last of which came in October 2022. Known for his ability to generate reverse swing, Yadav's specialty is with the red ball, taking 170 Test scalps in 57 matches. His most-recent Test was against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship final, but he had a forgettable outing.
Umesh Yadav's IPL career:
Since 2010, Umesh has played for Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He is currently with the Knight Riders and heads their bowling unit. In overall 141 IPL matches, the Vidharba cricketer has picked up 136 scalps at 30.2.
As for the 36-year-old's personal life, he married fashion designer Tanya Wadhwa in May 2013 and the couple has two daughters.
