The year began with Australian trio Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft getting caught in one of the most shocking scandals in cricket history. The incident happened during Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test match at Cape Town. Bancroft was caught on camera, altering the ball condition with the help of sandpaper. However, when confronted by umpires, Bancroft denied, but the camera had already caught everything through its lens.

Post day’s play, captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft accepted tampering ball condition along with vice-caption David Warner to get the reverse sweep during the post-match press conference. This incident led to shockwaves in cricket arena with Steve Smith and David Warner getting suspended for a year and Cameron Bancroft banned for nine months. Meanwhile, this controversy led to coach Lehman’s resignation.

Quinton de Kock-David Warner ‘vile’ wife sledge

Australian cricketer David Warner got involved in a verbal spat with Quinton de Kock during the Test series in March. The video footage of the same went viral on social media. The video shows Warner and de Kock engaged in a verbal spat before his teammate intervened and stopped the fight.

Captain Virat Kohli found himself at the receiving end when the skipper, in a video, asked a cricket fan to leave the country for expressing some brazen views on Indian cricket. Kohli, in a viral video, said, “I don’t think you should live in India, go and live somewhere else. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me, but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”

The video received flak on social media. Cricketers and other sports personalities comes down heavily at the skipper for his attitude. Later, Kohli cleared his stance and said his words shouldn’t be taken seriously.

India vs Australia Test series is receiving much attention thanks to players’ aggression. Recently, in the 2nd Test match, skippers of both the sides Virat Kohli and Tim Paine got involved in verbal banters during the game, and the umpire had to intervene and stop the matter from going out of hands. And, after the final day of the 2nd Test, when Kohli went to shake hands with Paine, he apparently didn’t look at him and avoided eye contact. This received much flak and became a talk of town for fans of both sides.

In an unpleasant manner, Bangladesh players were accused of breaking glass door of their dressing room at the R Premadasa Stadium after winning a close fought game against hosts Sri Lanka. The alleged incident involved their captain Shakib Al Hasan, who was later fined for the team’s behaviour.

Earlier, this year, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami found himself making headlines for all wrong reasons. Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan accused him of metal, physical torture and cheating for more than a year. While accusing, Hasin Jahan shared series of photos allegedly of Shami’s WhatsApp chats on her Facebook account, accusing him of being involved in extra-marital affairs. Later, Shami’s wife also accused him of fixing, allegations which could not be proved.

Al Jazeera, a Gulf news channel, in a sting operation, claimed that 15 international cricket matches involving England, Australia and Pakistan held between 2011 and 2012 were spot fixed. Al Jazeera, in its investigative report, has claimed of digging evidence of fixing or corruption.

As per the Al Jazeera report, the matches include England vs India at Lords, South Africa vs Australia at Cape Town and various matches during England vs Pakistan in UAE.

Recalling the moment, the former pacer said that Bhajji didn’t slap him and just tried to hit him. He further added that he felt helpless at that moment and burst into tears.

Days later, Mithali in a ‘leaked’ email to BCCI accused coach Ramesh Powar of discriminatory and unfair behaviour. Days after announcing retirement from professional cricket, Gautam Gambhir criticised former skipper MS Dhoni’s decision during the 2012 CB series in Australia. Gambhir revealed that Dhoni didn’t want him Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag together in the playing XI. However, when his decision backfired, Dhoni played the trio for the next game with Gambhir coming at one down.

Gambhir said it came as a shocker for him as the team for the 2015 World Cup was selected in 2012. Further, Gambhir advised Dhoni to stick to his decisions.
