Mumbai: After being in the receiving end on the opening day, Madon Polo came up with their best as they out classed Sterhagen 9-7 in the Sternhagen Polo Cup Championship, at ARC grounds, Mahalaxmi, here on Wednesday. Madon Polo who were denied a point against Piramal Polo after their 1.5 handicapped deprived them, came back strongly after Sterhagen were off to a flier with Abhimanyu Pathak and Siddhanth Sharma scoring a goal each in the opening chukker.
Madon did strike with Vishal Nihalani scoring a goal at the stroke of the first chukker. Madon Polo’s Kuldeep Singh Rathore turned the tables on the rivals finding the target thrice as they raced to a 4-2 lead. But, Sterhagen struck again with Abhimanyu and Siddhanth striking the right cord to level the score at the end of the second chukker.
Two goals in the chukker that followed by Simran Shergill enabled Madon take the lead (6-5) again and maintained the same with the last chukker to go. Two goals by Abhimanyu put Sterhagen in the lead. But Madon’s had other ideas as Vishal Nihilani responded with two goal and Simran Shergill chipping in one goal as Madon Polo were home with a 9-7 verdict and stay alive in the contest.
