Mumbai:Opening batsman Shoaib Shaikh gave a superb exhibition of counter-attacking as he produced a cavalier unbeaten century which ensured hosts and defending champions D.Y. Patil ‘A’ coast to comfortable six wicket victory over ONGC in a high-scoring and entertaining Group-A league match of the Rs 12 lakhs prize-money 10th All India Dr. D.Y. Patil T20 Cup, organised by the D.Y Patil Sports Academy, under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and played at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, Nerul on Tuesday evening.
The home team now with two wins under their belt from three matches are virtually assured of a berth in the quarter-finals from this group. Jain Irrigation also with two wins from three matches and ONGC, who have one win and play Andhra Bank on Wednesday, are the other teams in contention of a place in the last eight.
Put in to bat first, ONGC once again got off to a blistering start. Opener Unmukt Chand and Tanmay Srivastava punished the insipid D.Y. Patil bowling attack. But the lower order batsmen failed to get going and they were restricted to just 207 for seven wickets from their 20 overs.
