Senhora eye double crown, Shubham aiming for triple

Mumbai : Senhora D’Souza and Shubham Ambre, both grabbed all the attention during the penultimate round of matches in the 5-Star Mumbai City District Table Tennis Tournament, conducted and hosted by the Matunga Gymkhana and played at their table tennis hall on Sunday. D’Souza is set for a grand having advanced to the women’s singles and youth girls’ singles final while a triple crown awaits Ambre who reached the junior boys, youth boys and men’s open final.

In the women’s semi-final second seeded D’Souza defeated unseeded Manasi Chiplunkar 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. In the final she will meet top seed Shweta Parte who brushed aside fourth seed Ruchira Manerkar 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in the other semi-final.

Earlier in the youth girls’ semi-final, the top-seeded D’Souza eased past Ruchira Manekar winning in five games at 11-7, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 to set up a title clash with Manasi Chiplunkar who beat Misbah Sumar 11-10, 11-5, 11-2, 11-6.

Meanwhile the bespectacled Ambre was in a dominant mood winning all his three semi-final encounters with a degree of comfort.

Results: (semi-finals) – Cadet girls: 1-Nimisha Warang bt 4-Tia Harlalka 11-4, 11-6, 11-5; 2-Trisha Dalmia bt 3-Shreya Patil 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.

Sub-junior girls: 1-Riya Suryavanshi bt Shanica Kadam 11-7, 12-10, 11-4, 11-5; Hiya Doshi bt 2-Nimisha Warang 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 13-11.

Youth girls: 1-Senhora D’Souza bt Ruchira Manekar 11-7, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6; Manasi Chiplunkar bt Misbah Sumar 11-10, 11-5, 11-2, 11-6.

Women: 1-Shweta Parte bt 4-Ruchira Manerkar 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6; 2-Senhora D’Souza bt Manasi Chiplunkar 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6.

Cadet Boys: Dhruva Das bt Adit Tibrewala 11-7, 11-4, 13-11; 2-Sameehan Kulkarni bt 3-Yohan Mehta 11-4, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5.

Sub-Junior Boys: 1-Atharva Kurade bt Mandar Chiplunkar 11-3, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7; 2-Aditya Shinde bt Manjit Shah 11-5, 12-10, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9.

Junior Boys’ singles: 1-Shubham Ambre bt 3-Tanmay Rane 11-9, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8; 2-Mudit Dani bt 4-Parthav Kelkar 11-5, 11-3, 11-6, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8.
