London: Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is reportedly undergoing muscle training to avoid his body seizing up in coma.The former racer has entered a fifth week in an artificial coma in a French hospital since hitting his head on a rock while skiing in the French Alps.

According to Mirror, Schumacher is said to be in a stable condition but there are no plans to wake him yet. Emergency medicine expert Prof Heinzpeter Moecke said that patients in comas need limbs and joints moved daily to ensure muscles do not atrophy.

The report said that there is fear amongst doctors that Schumacher could be left in a permanent vegetative state when woken up. The German legend is in critical but stable condition in a hospital in the Savoie region of France following a serious skiing accident last month.

The bodywork of the Mercedes W05 model will display the words “KeepFightingMichael,” which has been used as a hashtag on the social networking site Twitter for fans to send their messages of support to the German.Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are the two Mercedes’ drivers for the upcoming season.

Schumacher finished his Formula One career with Mercedes in 2012 after making a surprise return to the sport in 2010.
The driver won five of his championships with Ferrari and the Italian team also paid tribute to their stricken hero on Monday.

The outfit published a family style photo of their team on their website at the Jerez circuit in front of a banner reading “Forza Michael”.
