Sanya Vats overcomes Navmi Sharma for crown

Mumbai: Gaint-killer, Yash Fadte of Goa continued his fine run in the championship. After over coming top Tushar Shahani in the previous rounds, got the better of second ranked Veer Chotrani to clinch the title in the boys under-19, at the CCI 10th Indian Junior Open, at the club court here Sunday. Locked 2-2 in the four games, Fadte won a cliff-hanger fifth game to win his maiden title at the venue.

Sanya Vats of Delhi who was ranked second in the under-19 girls section had to come out with her best before overcoming the stubborn top seed Navmi Sharma in the five-game encounter, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5. “It’s feels great to win this title. The CCI tournament is one the most prestigious championship in the Indian squash calendar,” a jubilant Yash said.
Top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar walked away with the men’s Open championship, winning the 75th CCI Western India Open squash championship. It was rather unfortunate as the second ranked Vikram Malhotra, pulled out of the finale, with hamstring injury (right leg).

Results– Men (finals): 1-M Mangaonkar w/o 2-V Malhotra. Boys’ U-19: Y Fadte bt V Chotrani 11-9, 11-8, 4-11, 3-11, 11-8. Girls U-19: 2-Sanya Vats (DL) beat 1-Navmi Sharma (MH) 5-11,11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5.
