Mumbai : Reserve Bank Of India’s former State and National Champion Sangeeta Chandorkar, former State Champion Pankaj Pawar and Former National Champion Suresh Kajrolkar won the Women, Men & Veteran singles titles in the 25th Senior Mumbai District Carrom Championship 2015.
ONGCs former Asian and State Champion Sandeep Deorukhkar tumbled at the final hurdle losing to Jain Irrigation’s former State Champion Pankaj Pawar in the Final.
Third seeded Pankaj Pawar rose to the challenge with a confident performance to record an upset victory against Former Asian and National Champion Sandeep Deorukhkar of ONGC in a thrilling three game encounter, in the first game. Pankaj Pawar played aggressive game mixed with defence which helped to claim the first game in eight boards conceding only 10 points 25-10.
In the second game Sandeep Deorukhkar playing aggressively by the end of fourth board took a strong lead of 22-6 and in the next three boards Pankaj could manage only10 points and won the second game 25-16 to make 1-1 all.
In the deciding 3rd game Pankaj Pawar playing defensively to get commanding lead of 15-10 till completion of 7th board. In the next Pankaj Pawar’s break scored an excellent finish and scored 10 points and won the game 25-10 to record a hard fought victory and pocketed Rs. 25,000/- cash prize. Sandeep Deorukhkar pocketed Rs. 11,000/- cash prize.
In the women singles final former National & State Champion Sangeeta Chandorkar of Reserve Bank Of India overcame upcoming Nilam Ghodke of Bank of India in a straight games encounter 25-20, 25-17 and annexed the title and cash prize of Rs. 11,000/-. Nilam Ghodke had to content with cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
In the Veteran Singles final former National Champion Suresh Kajrolkar knocked out Sudhakar Shirke of Friends Carrom Club 25-14, 25-10 in straight games duel to pocket prize money of Rs. 5000.
