Top seed Zahid Ahmed of Air India survived before beating the unseeded Salim Shaikh of YMCA, 25-9, 16-25, 25-10, while second seed Girish Tambe of MCGM had an easy outing against Hitendra Patel of BEST Sports Club 25-0, 25-1 to advance to the last 16 round. World champion and fourth seed Prashant More of Reserve Bank of India also progressed to the pre-quarter-final round recording an authoritative 25-8, 25-0 win against Ankit Mohite of Vijay CC in another fourth round encounter.
