Mumbai: S.P. Football Academy emerged champions in the women’s competition of the 11th BWFA football tournament conducted by the Bandra West Association.
In an evenly contested final, the Academy outfit were engaged in dogged battle for supremacy with Sea View Sports Club, before clinching a tight 2-1 victory in their favour.
Hard-working and prolific scorer Akansha Kandalkar once again played a responsible role for S.P. Academy as she scored the opening goal while teammate Karishma Vazirani added the second to secure their triumph against the spirited Sea View side who managed to score their lone goal through Anju Tumberekar. Akansha Kandalkar (SP Football Academy) was later declared the ‘Player of the Final’.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Sea View blanked Kenkre FC by a 2-0 margin with Jenifer Rayar and Neha Ture hitting the target once each. In the other match, S.P. Academy overcame a fighting Companeroes SC by a close 2-1 margin.
Akansha Kandalkar and Karishma Vazirani, got the goals for the Academy team, while Companeroes reduced the margin through Abigail Fernandes.
Meanwhile in the boy’s u-14 finals, Companeroes SC proved too good for Theresians SC as they romped to a 7-1 victory. Keith D’Souza scored three goals and Josiah Noronha netted two while Nixon Pinto and Brendon Gomandes added once each to seal their win. Theresians scored through Shakib Shaikh.
