Mumbai: Bespectacled Rohit D’Souza played a leading role as Royals scored a nail-biting 3-2 win over Challengers in the final of the inaugural MCF Badminton league held at their sports complex at Borivali on Sunday night.
Rohit opened the Royals account, by prevailing over Manan Sharma after dropping the first game 19-21, 21-16, 21-6. But Challengers soon made amends when their men’s double pair of Manan Sharma and Sheryl put out Anup Nerurkar and Ranjit Parikh 14-21, 21-17, 8-11 in a thrilling men’s double tie.
This was followed by unexpected bonus for the Royals as their mixed doubles pair of Rohit D’Souza and Dimple Pandhi surprised their rivals strong pair of Deep Udeshi and Rea Rocque 21-17, 11-21, 11-5 to bring Royals back in the lead.
Though Royals second singles player Saurin Parikh proved no match for Yogesh Samant (9-21, 14-21), it was Satish Sharma and Rahul Parikh, who steered their side to title win, beating Piyush Parikh and Avdoot N 21-15, 21-13.
