Mumbai: Defending champions Rizvi Springfield, having already won the Harris Shield last week, defeated Borivali’s Swami Vivekanand by 62 runs in the final of the B. Kichadia- Khar Gymkhana Suburban Schools Cricket tournament, hosted by Khar Gymkhana on Monday. However, it was to the credit of the Vivekananad boys, especially dimunitive Aman Sharma, who remained unbeaten with 60 as they fought till the last.
The Rizvi captain Prithvi Shaw did well to win the toss and opted to bat first. But Prithvi and his opening partner Vaibhav Kalamkar were back in the pavilion before the score reached double figure. However, Sagar Chhabria and Satyalaksha Jain controlled the situation very well and put on acentury partnership before they were separated.
Later Ashutosh Singh ( 24) and Shubham Vornam ( 49) used long handle to take their side to fighting 273 for nine off the allotted 45 overs. For the Vivekanand boys, medium pacer Suvedh Parkar was the most successful bowler with five for 64 off 12 overs.
In reply, Vivakanand boys openers Suved Parkar and Siddhesh adav batted rather timidly and consumed too many overs for 25 runs. Once the openers fell, it was the double spin attack of Prithvi Shaw and leftarm spinner Siddak Singh that prevented the Borivali side from accelerating the run rate.
Though they failed to reach the target, the most saving grace of their innings was the attacking 61 by Saurabh Tripathi and stylish unbeaten 60 by Aman Sharma, as they ended with 210 for five. From Rizvi boys, it was Prithvi and Siddak who shared the spoils with two wickets apiece. Defending champions Rizvi Springfield team
