Mumbai: Rizvi College retained the Inter College Cricket Tournament for Rizvi Champions Trophy, organised by Rizvi Education Society, under the aegis of Mumbai University and Mumbai Cricket Association. They defeated Podar College by 101 runs in the final at the Karnataka Sporting Association ground on Monday.
Skipper Kevin Almeida (98) and off-spinner Pankaj Jaiswal (5/22) were the stars in Rizvi’s win. Batting first, Rizvi riding on Almeida’s half century managed to post competitive 261 in 45 overs. Aakash Parkar was the other main contributor with 39.
Podar, in reply, were folded out for 160 with Jaiswal scalping five. Podar’s Raunak Sharma was the highest scorer with an unbeaten 55 while Amol Bhatkal scored 47.Rizvi Education Society trustee Javed Rizvi was all praise of boys. “It was a fantastic effort by the boys. Having lost the fourday final of Mumbai University, it required some great effort from the boys,” said Javed Rizvi.
Sports Director Rajesh Sonawane, too, was happy. “The boys have made us proud. They have fought very hard to earn this title,” said Sonawane.Brief scores: Rizvi College 261 all out in 45 overs (Kevin Almeida 98, Aakash Parkar 39, Mitesh Rane 3/34, Meghan Pednekar 2/41) beat Podar College 160 all out in 33 overd (Amol Bhatkal 47, Raunak Sharma 55*, Pankaj Jaiswal 5/22, Yash Chavan 2/26) by 101 runs.
