Mumbai : Bandra’s Rizvi College emerged champions in the Inter-College Hockey Tournament, organised by Mumbai University. The former champions regained the title by defeating Khalsa College 5-4 via tie-breaker at the Khalsa College ground.
For Rizvi, Suraj Dubey, Pabitra Sabat, Akash Mishra, Anand Rai and Akash Khaire scored the winners after the score was 0-0 at the regulation time.
Rizvi College, which finished third last year, had pocketed the inter-college title in 2010.
In the semi-finals, Rizvi College defated a tough St Andrew’s College in a thrlling encounter that ended in favour of Rizvi 1-0. The quarterfinal outing was much easier where they defeated MMK College from Bandra with a convincing 2-0 margin.
“After we lost in the final of university football tournament, winning hockey tournament was important for us. The final went down to the wire, however, our boys held their nerves in the tie breaker. It is always nice to pocket a hockey title since it is our national game,” Sports Director of Rizvi College Rajesh Sonawane said.
