Pawan rallies past Bijlani

Mumbai : Pawan Kohli of Khar Gymkhana rallied from trailing on two occasions to enter the final qualifying round in the second phase of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Tournament on Sunday.

Kohli endured a rusty start as he trailed 1-2 and 2-3 before surprising formidable Sanjiv Bijlani of Park Club with an exciting 4-3 win that included winning the decider in a black-ball finish. In another tie that went the distance, Karan Mangat rallied to beat Khar Gymkhana marker Manoj Kasare after trailing 1-2 and being forced into the decider.

Meanwhile, Hitesh Kotwani of PJ Hindu Gymkhana and JVPG marker Mahadev Bhogle advanced to the elite round following convincing 4-1 wins.

The others who entered the final qualifying round were, Vimal Thakkar of Dadar Club, Harmehr Mago of Khar Gymkhana, Sunil Jain of Elphinstone Cricket Club, marker Ajit Kobnak of PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Prabdeep Singh of MIG and 2014 state junior snooker champion Nimish Kulkarni of PYC, Pune who fired the tournament’s highest break of 65 thus far.
