London: Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that Louis Van Gaal-led side can make it to the top four in the Premier League, but ruled out their possibility to claim this season’s title.
“Is it a team that can go on to win the league? I don’t think so. Top four? That’s a definite possibility. They should be good enough for top four without a shadow of a doubt,” Scholes was quoted as saying by goal.com.
The 41-year-old, however, insisted that there was a lack of confidence in the team as they have been struggling in their previous eight games.
“At home they’ve struggled. The last eight results haven’t been good enough. You’re playing against a team second bottom here, confidence is really low, and they’ve not won that game as well,” he added.
Earlier, United failed to claim victory in this week’s clash in Premier League as they were held by Newcastle to a 3-3 draw, despite taking the lead twice over the course of the 90 minutes.
United are currently at the sixth spot in league standings, having nine wins from 21 games which they have played. They will next lock horns with Liverpool on January 17.
