Mumbai : Mumbai-based paddlers shone brightly with Madhurika Patkar bagging the women’s singles gold medal and Sanil Shetty and Manushree Patil picking up silver medals in the men’s singles and junior girls’ singles events respectively, in the 11Even Sports National Ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships, which concluded on Wednesday at the R Dengthuama Multipurpose Indoor Stadium at Mualpui, Aizawl.

In the women’s singles final, Patkar played aggressively and hit some fine winners to decimate the in-form Reeth Rishya 4-1 (11-7, 11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 15-13) to clinch the top honours. In contrast, the men’s final contest between Shetty and Anthony Amalraj witnessed a grim battle for supremacy. Shetty after making a positive start was unable to maintain the momentum and went on to lose the contest to Amalraj 3-4 (11-7, 11-9, 11-13, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11).

Manushree of Maharashtra also faltered after putting up an impressive performance initially and succumbed to defeat at the hands of Tamil Nadu’s Yashini Sivashankar by a 3-4 (11-8, 6-11, 12-14, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11).
