Hyderabad : Ace mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, who went missing during an expedition in the high mountains between Argentina and Chile last month, has been found dead.
The news was conveyed to the family members by government officials, according to Mastan Babu’s sister Dorasanamma.
Hailing from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, the 40-year-old accomplished mountaineer had gone on an expedition around a fortnight ago. He went missing as the weather turned bad, Nellore Police said.
He reportedly holds a record for being the fastest ‘seven summit’ climber from India.
A Facebook page set up by his friends and well wishers posted ‘Mountains retained its favourite child..RIP Malli Mastan Babu.’
Indian embassies in Argentina and Chile coordinated with the local authorities in trying to locate the missing mountaineer.
YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed grief over the death of Mastan Babu. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members, a party release said. —PTI
