Mumbai : Maharashtra swimmers, spearheaded by Armaan Sikka, who bagged two golds and was adjudged individual champion, won the overall team championship at the 31st National Sub-junior Swimming Championship concluded in Indore. Maharashtra also emerged best in the Group 4 (under 10 years) boys and girls team championships.
Vinit Mane broke an 11-year-old record in 50m backstroke with a time of 32.51 secs in Group 3 (under-12 years). Kenisha Gupta won the gold in 50m butterfly with a timing of 33.72 secs in the same age group. In Group 4, Armaan Sikka set a national record in 200m individual medley (2:46.61 secs) and also broke the 100m freestyle record that was set in the year 2005 with a timing of 1min 05.45secs. Kapil Shetty, who won the gold in 50m backstroke with a time of 35.40 secs, bettered the national record in 100m freestyle. Aeka Chatra was the gold medal winner in 50m backstroke (38.30secs). Ananya Pandey secured gold in 50m breaststroke at 42.34secs.
Apart from the individual honours, Maharashtra also dominated in the relays. Group 4 girls set a new national record in 4x50m freestyle relay with a timing of 2:14.35 secs and won the gold in the 4x50m medley relay (2:33.48sec). Group 4 boys set a new record in 4x50m freestyle relay with a time of 2:04.92 secs and won the silver medal in the 4x50m medley relay (2:21.08secs), creating a new national record. Other medal winners were: Meet Makhija, Akanksha Shah, Seeya Bijlani.
