Mumbai : Mumbai Port Trust and last year’s runners-up Bombay YMCA ‘A’ registered comfortable wins to enter the semi-finals of the 62nd Callan Cup Open Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Bombay YMCA Physical Education Department, at the YMCA Jhulla Maidan, Agripada on Monday.
After defending champions Hoopers were shocked in the pre-quarter-finals, MbPT eased past Silver Spikers 25-10, 25-9 to set up the last four clash with Bombay YMCA ‘A’ who beat Parle Boys 25-14, 25-14. A.R. Sports ‘A’ halted Chembur YMCA 25-17, 25-23 in a tight quarter-final in the top half of the draw and will face Ali Boys ‘A’ in the other semi-final.
Earlier, in the pre-quarter-finals, Friends Club stunned Hoopers 25-15, 22-25, 15-7 in a best-of-three sets thriller, while Chembur YMCA rallied to overcome Naval Dockyard 25-27, 25-19, 15-7 in another thriller.
