Palghar District Carrom Championship: Sharif Shaikh, Swapnil Sharma, Ashutosh Giri advance

Mumbai: Unseeded Sharif Shaikh of Pragati C C continued gaint killing run by ousting former District Champion Sandeep Sarsar of Pragati C C 25-16, 25-10 in straight games to enter semi finals of the Men Singles event in the 3rd Mayor Trophy Palghar District Carrom Championship organised by Tathastu Group Nalasopara (East) & Palghar District CARROM Association at Kapol School, Achole Road, Nalasopara(E.), Dist. Palghar.

In other men Singles Kailash Waghela of Pragati C. C. overcame Ketan Kawa of Pragati C. C. in a thrilling three game encounter 6-25, 25-10, 25-4 to enter last four. Fourth seeded Ashutosh Giri of YST upset former Palghar District Champion Anil Bodhare of YST 25-13, 25-6 in straight games. In another match Top Seeded Pramod Sharma of Vasai scored hard fought victory against Yashwant Konadkar of Pragati C. C. 25-14, 25-12 in straight games to advance further.

In Veteran Men single’s final round Navin Patil and Ganesh Phadke gave it their best shot before the former managed to scrape through winning by 25-14, 25-12 in a tense two game encounter to claim title. In the team championship final Samaj Unnati Mandal ‘B’ Team defeated Samaj Unnati Mandal ‘A’ Team by 2-1 margin.
