Junior Rangers emerge supreme

Mumbai : Junior Rangers team emerged victorious, winning the Boys’ Under-16 title in the 15th Kalina Football League -2015, organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee, and played at the St. Mary’s High School ground, Kalina. Strikers Vinay Puthumana and Aaron Lobo scored a goal each for the winning side.

In the final, the Junior Rangers outfit showed good understanding and coordinated well to record a convincing 2-0 victory against Farm House Sports Club (FHSC). Dictating terms from the start, Junior Rangers snatched the lead in the first half with striker Vinay Puthumana finding the target. After the change of ends, Aaron Lobo struck the second goal to seal Junior Rangers’ win.

There was more joy for Junior Rangers as their players, Tilak Shetty was declared the ‘Player of the Tournament’ and Vinay Puthumana won the ‘Player of the Final’ award. Keegan Jacinto of FHSC was adjudged as the Promising player of the tournament. Later in the veteran’s final, Anton Saldanha fired a brace to guide Golden Gunners to a close 2-1 win against Kalina Rangers. Chris Fernandes netted the lone goal for Rangers. Anton was undoubtedly named as the ‘Player of the final’. Chief Guest, former Indian star Steven Dias presented the champions trophy and the cash awards to Junior Rangers and Golden Gunners team and the runners-up trophy to the Farm House Sports Club and Kalina Rangers team.
