New Delhi : Indian boxers rounded off a brilliant run at the Doha International Tournament, winning four gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the event on Saturday.
Commonwealth Games silver medallist L Devendro Singh (49kg), Shiva Thapa (56kg), Manish Kaushik (60kg), and Manoj Kumar (64kg) won the gold medals.
The silver medal went to Gaurav Bidhuri (52kg), while Mandeep Jangra (69kg) and Vikas Krishan (75kg) bagged bronze medals.
In the finals today, Devendro beat Philippines Aldren Moreno 3:0. This was followed Gaurav losing to Montassar Bouali 2:1.
However, it was all wins for India from here on.
Former asian gold medalist Shiva defeated Egypt’s HYM Abdelaal 2:1.
Manish beat Moroccan Rabi Hamza 3:0, while Manoj thrashed Filipino Magliquian Nicole by a similar margin. —PTI

Medal haul for eves too
Taipei: Three Indian boxers, Savita, Mandeep Sandhu and Sakshi clinched gold medals, while Soniya and Gonella Niharika won silver medals in the AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships on Saturday. In the 50 kg category, Savita defeated Ukranian Rohova Kateryna 3-0 in the final, while in the 52 kg event, Mandeep defeated Irish Earley Niamh 3-0 in the title round. In the 54 kg competition, Sakshi moved past American Ramirez Yansel 3-0 to give India its third yellow metal. However, Soniya lost 1-2 against American Garcia Heaven in the 48 kg category. Gonelia came a cropper against Russia’s Sigaeva Anastaciia, who won 3-0 in the title clash of the 70 kg competition. —IANS
