Mumbai: Fancied Rafath Habib of Railways and Manav Panchal of Mumbai were taken the distance on an exciting day of snooker action, in the CCI Classic Billiards & Snooker Tournament on Thursday. Playing his opening tie in Group B, Panchal was taken by surprise by young Malkeet Singh of CCI as he earned a hard-fought 3-2 win in the best-of-five frames round robin contest.

Panchal dropped the first frame and trailed again after the losing the third on the black, before snatching the decider in another black ball finish. Panchal went on to beat Nitesh Madan of Railways 3-1, before going down to Asian 6-Red champion and India No. 7 Laxman Rawat 0-3.

Tamil Nadu based Rafath Habib also kicked off his campaign with a thrilling 3-2 win over Himanshu Jain of Andhra Pradesh after rallying from 0-2 in Group D.
